An Exclusive Photowalk with Sam Hussein, the Celebrated British Royal Family Photographer

Samir Hussein is one of the UK's leading Royal and Entertainment photographers. Spending much of his time as an official photographer capturing the British Royal Family, he also documents film festivals such as Cannes, London and Paris Fashion weeks, Europe's biggest music festivals as well as the top VIP parties and red carpet events.

Samir was in Kolkata in early December in 2013 to spend a week volunteering with The Hope Foundation. On December 13, The Hope Foundation in collaboration with Calcutta Photo Tours had organized a unique photowalk in aid of Hope Kolkata Foundation, the direct implementation body of HOPE in India.

Armed with a camera, Kolkatans and tourists walked through the corridors of culture in the city of joy with Sam, who provided great tips on photography and Manjit, who operated the tour. The participants were treated to rare glimpses of the cultural kaleidoscope of Kolkata and were introduced to little-known but amazing facts about the city's various other communities who made Calcutta home and who now form an integral part of Kolkata. The tour included Bow Barracks, Zoroastrian Fire Temple, Old Chinatown, Old Jewish neighborhoods, Jain Temple, Portuguese Church, Armenian Church and the Chitpur neighbourhood all of which was captured enthusiastically by the passionate shutterbugs. The tour was covered by print media such as Hindustan Times, The Times of India and News Line, a television news channel.

The proceeds from this event went towards the repairing of HOPE’s Kidderpore Education Centre.
